Gestational Diabetes Profile
Congratulations on your pregnancy! A healthy lifestyle and regular pre-natal care is important for the development of the baby and prevention of pregnancy complications.
The Gestational Diabetes Profile is a comprehensive panel of routine and state-of-the-art laboratory tests ideal for prevention and management of gestational diabetes and complications of pregnancy. These tests are for expectant mothers in their first or second trimester of pregnancy (8-27 weeks) in addition to regular prenatal care. Early identification of gestational diabetes allows early initiation of important diet and lifestyle changes.
1 in 10 women have gestational diabetes.
Who should be tested?

- Overweight or obese prior to pregnancy
- History of gestational diabetes
- Family history of either type 1 or type 2 diabetes
- Glycosuria (glucose in urine)
- History of prediabetes
- Previous infant weighing > 8 lbs,13 ounces at birth
- High risk of pregnancy complications
- Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
Why be tested?
Between 15 and 35% of women with gestational diabetes will experience complications of pregnancy. In addition, both mother and baby have an increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes later. Despite that, there are numerous things expectant mothers can do to improve their current health and prevent complications.
Children of mothers with gestational diabetes have an 8-fold greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life.
